Gina Bria | Anthropologist of PLAY

Cultural Anthropologist, Gina Bria, works on linking new media and technology with old practices of ritual and neuro-processing to navigate and transform our high- anxiety culture. Her innovative workshops and trainings produce critical thinking skills through practical applications of research. “I teach people how to think.” Using a variety of disciplines beyond anthropology she draws on brain research, ancient thinking strategies, neuro-linguistics, ritual cognitive states and creative processing. Most recently she was a featured speaker at World Evolved, LLC in their Real World Scholars Lecture Series and can be seen online in Karen Armstrong’s TED Prize Project, The Charter of Compassion. She is founder of The Art of Thinking Project, applying the latest brain strategies with creative processing for problem-identification in work environments, educational programs, professional societies and arts organizations. Bria is a former Berlin Fellow with Institute for Family Development, Social Science Research Council, Humboldt University; an NIH Finalist in Medieval History; former Affiliate Fellow, Columbia University, Center for Young Children & Families and author of Ritual, Anxiety and my IPhone, and The Art of Family. Her writing and work has appeared in such diverse venues as The New York Times and Grand Central Terminal, where she was found leading a group of 13-year old boys across hidden bridges in the ceiling: a contemporary take on coming-of-age rituals.
