Born in Texas, USA. Military-pilot father; meaning as a child, I had a different house and new school every 2 years. Went to snotty eastern-US boarding school and small liberal-arts college. Went to Montreal Expo 67. Straight job for several years in US direct marketing/catalog world at Horchow. Consulted in that field for 25 years. Lucky to have Stanley Marcus and Roger Horchow as colleagues and mentors for a number of years. Had heart attack and open heart surgery almost 7 years ago; with slow, problematic rehab. Went to first TED in 2005. Something snapped. Met Lindsay Aranoff at TED2010. It snapped worse. For a little while now, I have been trying to discover and nurture breakout educational ideas for young kids. Enamored of KIPP and its siblings/cousins.
